Le Bénin se rapproche du Togo sur fond de dialogue avec l’AES

Un changement d’orientation diplomatique semble se dessiner au Bénin avec l’arrivée d’un nouveau président.

Plusieurs indices laissent penser que les autorités béninoises souhaitent désormais ouvrir une nouvelle phase dans leurs relations avec les pays de l’Alliance des États du Sahel (AES), en particulier avec le Niger.

Cette volonté de rapprochement transparaît notamment dans les échanges entre Faure Gnassingbé et Romuald Wadagni. Les discussions portent notamment sur la nécessité de relancer les relations entre Cotonou et Lomé, dans un contexte régional marqué par les tensions sécuritaires et les recompositions géopolitiques en Afrique de l’Ouest.

Le Togo occupe aujourd’hui une place particulière dans les équilibres régionaux. Considéré comme un partenaire proche de l’AES, Lomé joue également un rôle d’intermédiaire dans plusieurs initiatives de dialogue avec les pays voisins. Les relations entre le président sortant béninois Patrice Talon et Faure Gnassingbé se sont toutefois refroidies ces dernières années, en raison de désaccords diplomatiques et sécuritaires.

Le changement de leadership à Cotonou pourrait donc ouvrir une nouvelle séquence politique entre les deux pays. Plusieurs signaux indiquent que le réchauffement des relations entre le Bénin et le Togo pourrait servir de base à des discussions plus larges avec les États membres de l’AES.

Au-delà du dialogue politique, les enjeux concernent également la sécurité régionale. Face à la menace terroriste dans plusieurs zones frontalières, les futurs échanges pourraient déboucher sur des accords de coopération militaire et de défense. À terme, certains observateurs évoquent même la possibilité d’un rapprochement institutionnel plus important entre l’AES, le Bénin et le Togo.

Si cette dynamique se confirme, elle pourrait modifier les rapports de force au sein de l’Afrique de l’Ouest et redessiner les alliances régionales autour des questions de sécurité et de souveraineté.
