The first census of Togolese abroad ended on June 30, 2022, the Togolese government announced last Thursday.
The process was organized in order to identify the Togolese living outside the country, “to better understand their geographical distribution throughout the world, to provide Togo with a reliable and efficient database allowing the development of skills, expertise and the wealth of the Togolese diaspora with a view to transforming these strategic demographic assets into an economic and social dividend.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad has thus launched the operation since March 8, 2022. The census initially scheduled to end on June 7 has been extended to June 30, 2022.
“Dear compatriots, after 4 months of launching the 1st census of Togolese in the diaspora which according to experts is the 1st of its kind in Africa. On behalf of President Faur Essozimna Gnassingbe and the government, I would like to thank you for your availability and patriotism. “, said Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Togo Prof. Robert Dusey.
The technical teams are now expected to proceed with the work of data processing and preparation of the results which should make it possible to take stock of this first census of Togolese abroad.
