On Thursday, November 28, the Togolese government, in partnership with other stakeholders, officially launched the Global Peace and Security Alliance (GPSA). This initiative builds on the momentum of the Lomé Peace and Security Forum, held a year ago, and Togo’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives.
The GPSA aims to create a unifying framework that fosters dialogue and collaboration among existing platforms, initiatives, and forums dedicated to global peace and security.
“The Global Peace and Security Alliance (GPSA) initiative aims to provide an umbrella framework for dialogue and cooperation among these platforms in order to strengthen collective efforts to promote peace and security at the global level,” stated the Togolese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The initiative also seeks to support joint projects and pool resources to promote international peace and security. According to the announcement, the GPSA will connect peace and security forums from Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia to build a safer and more prosperous world.
The launch of the GPSA comes precisely one year after the first edition of the Lomé Peace and Security Forum and three years after Togo adopted its Sahel Strategy.
The country was preparing to host the “9th Pan-African Congress,” initially scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 2, 2024, in Lomé. However, the event was postponed to a later date with no details provided regarding this decision.
Togo Launches Global Peace and Security Alliance
