The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad, Prof Robert Dussey on Friday shared his message of sympathy with Turkey, affected by fires since Wednesday.
Indeed, a fire broke out in the forestry areas of Antalya-Manavgat on July 28. Neighboring neighborhoods were evacuated as the blaze approached downtown Manavgat (the city that hosted Togo’s hawks in their friendlies last month.
According to an announcement from AFAD, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, 3 people were killed in the fires, 122 people were affected and 58 people are being treated.
After Manavgat, fires broke out in Adana, Osmaniye, Kayseri and Mersin.
Residents of the four provinces were evacuated from their homes as a precaution.
A new outbreak of fire has also been observed in Marmaris district in Muğla as response teams continue to fight the fires.
According to our correspondent in Antalya, Yaou Mensah Agbenou, the helicopters have been coming and going since the fire broke out.
In the fight against these fires 45 helicopters, 6 planes, thousands of vehicles and personnel were deployed.
Most of the blaze is now under control, but dozens of villages and neighborhoods in Antalya province have had to be evacuated.
The Turkish authorities announce the opening of several investigations. “Those responsible will be held accountable for this attack on our nature and our forest,” tweeted Fahrettin Altun, communications director for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
