Togo-Covid-19 Omicron : new measures for travelers from South Africa

Passengers from South Africa will now have to observe a systematic 72-hour quarantine at their expense, upon arrival in Togolese territory.

The measure, communicated in particular to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) and the National Hygiene Institute (INH), was decided by the Minister of Health.

This, “because of reports of the recently discovered OMICRON coronavirus variant in South Africa”.

The Minister also specifies that the concerned people will undergo another test at the end of this period, then subjected to the appropriate sanitary conduct.

Indeed, in recent days, a new mutant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been identified in South Africa, called the Omicron variant.

The latter, according to preliminary data, is considered much more transmissible, and presents an “increased risk of reinfection”, according to experts who recommend absolute vigilance.

As a reminder, Togo has announced the imminent administration of a third dose or booster dose for people over the age of forty, in particular in response to the emergence of this new variant.
