The new EU Commission in Togo holds its 1st dialogue with the country

Togo held on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad, the 1st session of the Partnership Dialogue with the new European Union (EU) Commission.

During this meeting, discussions focused on various topics, including terrorism, the impact of the war in Ukraine, the upcoming elections and other current affairs.

The session was co-chaired by H.E. Prof. Robert Dussey, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Joaquín TASSO VILALLONGA, Ambassador of the European Union in Togo.

“Discussions focused on national and international issues of common interest, including the fight against terrorism and the situation in the savannah region, the impact of the war in Ukraine and the mitigation measures, the decentralization process and the upcoming elections, economic governance and the fight against corruption, as well as the follow-up to Togo’s universal periodic review,” says a report published by the Togolese authorities.

Concerning the fight against terrorism, the two parties said they are committed to strengthening and expanding their cooperation to provide the Togolese defense and security forces with response capabilities enabling them to carry out an effective fight against this scourge.
