According to decrees read Thursday evening on national television, the Head of State Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé dismissed the Minister of the Togolese Armies, Mrs. Marguerite Essossimna Gnakadè.
Two years after her appointment, the Togolese Minister for the Armed Forces, Marguerite Essozimna Gnakade, has been dismissed from her post. The decree specifies that she is called to other functions.
However, there will be no new Minister of the Armed Forces since this ministerial department is now attached to the Presidency of the Republic as was the case from 2007 to 2020.
Colonel Tassounti Djato, former Chief of Staff of the Air Force, has therefore been promoted to general and “appointed Chief of General Staff of the Togolese Armed Forces (FAT)”. He replaces General Dadja Maganawé, appointed to this post on December 6, 2020.
This vast move in the military hierarchy comes as the country is targeted by recurring terrorist attacks in the north near the border with Burkina Faso.
