In a message published Tuesday evening, the President of the Republic of Togo, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, expressed to Turkey and Syria, the compassion and solidarity of the Togolese people following the earthquakes that struck the two countries.

Turkey and Syria have been hit since Monday, February 6, 2023 by several deadly earthquakes. The tremors, felt in several regions of the two countries, caused more than 9,500 deaths according to the latest official reports, and thousands of injured and homeless.

Despite the fact that international aid is gradually beginning to be put in place, the Head of State of Togo also called for mobilization “to deal with the devastating effects of this horrible disaster”.

“Togo will provide permanent support to its two brotherly countries, and affirms its full confidence in their ability to deal with it and recover,” said Faure Gnassingbé, before sending his condolences to his counterparts, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Bashar Al-Assad, as well as to the victims.
