On Thursday, November 21, the Togolese head of State Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé welcomed Kenya’s former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, in Lomé. He was in transit through Togo as part of a regional tour.
Discussions between the two leaders centered on political and security issues in Africa, as well as the economic and social development challenges facing the continent. Key topics included infrastructure development, intra-African trade, visa facilitation, climate change, cultural promotion, and transportation.
“We also believe it is possible to create opportunities for young people, particularly in fields such as artificial intelligence and ICT,” Mr. Odinga stated after the meeting.
During his visit, Raila Odinga formally sought Togo’s support for his candidacy for the presidency of the African Union Commission (AUC), one of the organization’s principal governing bodies.
