In Togo, access to markets will soon be conditioned by the presentation of proof of vaccination against Covid-19 or a PCR test of less than 72 hours.
This is what emerges from a meeting organized by Payadowa Boukpessi, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Territorial Development, on Tuesday, January 18 in the capital Lomé.
The meeting took place between the Minister and the officials in charge of managing the markets located in the Greater Lomé area.
This decision, he underlines in front of his guests, follows the measures taken to counter the Omicron variant, more dangerous, more contagious.
“We were told that the Omicron variant, given its nature, can easily spread in our markets, which will be a disaster,” he said.
“It is a variant of the Coronavirus that circulates in nature. This is why the authority asked us to go and educate our comrades to be vaccinated to avoid the worst,” he added.
The Minister is giving participants two weeks for a series of awareness-raising sessions for users of meeting places between supply and demand.
“After this period, we will start checking the vaccine pass at market entrances,” he insists.
