The Togolese Journalist Joël Egah, director of the newspaper Fraternité, died on Sunday March 6, 2022, we learn from sources close to his family.
On December 10, 2021, Egah and investigative journalist Ferdinand Ayité were arrested and detained for a few weeks.
The two journalists were charged with “insulting the authorities” and “spreading lies”.
After their custody at the Research and Investigation Brigade (BRI) in Lomé, they were transferred to prison on Christmas Eve, before their release on December 31.
Their arrests have sparked reactions around the world, including from international NGOs such as CPJ, Amnesty International, Reporter Without Borders and many others.
