Two years after joining the Commonwealth, Togo has taken a another step forward in its partnership with the organization by formalizing a general framework for cooperation. The agreement was signed on Thursday, December 5, at Marlborough House in London by Togolese Prime Minister Victoire Dogbé and Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland.
This groundbreaking framework outlines priority areas where the Commonwealth will provide expertise and support to Togo. These include artificial intelligence and digital transformation, renewable energy and climate finance, skills development and human capital, international contract negotiations, youth empowerment, and capacity-building for institutions.
“We will work closely with the Commonwealth Secretariat to develop a roadmap with clear deadlines. I will ensure that each government department commits to delivering results that directly impact the lives of our citizens,” said Prime Minister Dogbé.
The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the organization’s dedication to collaboration. “The Commonwealth comprises 56 member states, 2.7 billion citizens, and over 60% of its population is under 30. The focus on youth is crucial, and we are ready to invest in this generation,” she stated.
This agreement follows October’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and signals a deepening of Togo’s engagement with the global organization.
