Despite its very underdeveloped health system, Togo has been able to operate a remarkable management of the COVID-19 pandemic on its territory.
According to analyzes published by Lowy Institute on January 28, Togo occupies first place in West Africa second on the continent and 15th place globally in terms of good management against Coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Rwanda, with only 183 deaths, was ranked 1st on the continent and 6th in the world.
These analyses by Lowy institute explored how nearly 100 countries have handled the pandemic to date after their 100th confirmed case of the novel disease.
Countries have been categorized into broad categories by regions, political systems, population size and economic development.
From these analyzes, it appears that some countries have handled the pandemic better than others. But most countries have only outperformed themselves through levels of underperformance.
A total of 98 countries were assessed in this Interactive within 36 weeks of their 100th confirmed case of COVID-19, using data available as of January 9, 2021.To achieve this encouraging and admirable result, Togo quickly took the bull by the horns. The various measures deployed by the Togolese government have proven their effectiveness in terms of limiting the spread of the pandemic.
These include the establishment of a state of health emergency, the implementation of the curfew and the closure of the affected towns. The medical staff, for their part, received a strengthening of their means of protection. This allowed the country of Faure Gnassingbé to better cope with emergencies.
