Togo- The new Turkish ambassador officially took office

Good news to Togolese citizens and residents who have to travel to Cotonou in Benin all the time for their visa application for Turkey. The country of Tayipp Erdoğan has finally opened its embassy in Togo.

Esra Demir has been officially accredited as Turkish Ambassador to Togo.

Togolese Head of State Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé received the diplomat’s letter of credence on Monday, April 26, 2021.

“There is a very great potential to be exploited within the framework of cooperation”, said Esra Demir at the end of the exchange with Faure Gnassingbé, before announcing an upcoming review of the framework agreements between Togo and Turkey, “to better strengthen the partnership in the economic and agricultural sectors”.

In July 2020, during an official visit of the Head of Turkish diplomacy to Togo, the two countries had signed numerous partnership agreements:
A memorandum of understanding relating to the establishment of a political consultation mechanism between the foreign ministries of the two countries, a reciprocal visa waiver agreement for official passport holders and a memorandum of understanding relating to the cooperation between the Togolese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy of the Republic of Turkey.
Moreover, the establishment of a Lomé-Ankara air link with Turkish Airlines was mentioned.

From June 30, 2014 to December 31, 2018, Esra Demir, 57, served her country as an ambassador in Côte d’Ivoire, before occupying the same position in Togo.
