The Togolese Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé proceeded Wednesday, April 26, to the inauguration of a new hospital in Lomé called Dogta-Lafiè. The infrastructure is qualified as the very first referral hospital in Togo.
The project launched four years ago under the name of Saint Pérégrin, was interrupted by the famous pandemic of COVID-19. At the end of the works, the infrastructure is renamed Dogta-Lafiè.
“The construction of the Dogta-Lafiè hospital, inaugurated today, responds to our ambition expressed in the national health policy, which aims to develop an efficient, equitable and accessible system for all, in particular the most vulnerable”, said Faure Gnassingbé after the inauguration.
Located in Agoè-Nyivé, north of the capital Lomé, this health facility covers an area of 11,000 m2. It is made up of eight blocks connected by a central distribution building, and has 22 consultation rooms, 160 beds, single rooms and double rooms.
Several specialties should be offered there, ranging in particular from medicine to cardiology, via surgery, gynecology, neonatology, pediatrics, all integrating an evolving medical robotic platform.
Dogta-Lafiè will be extended with, among other things, the establishment of a cancerology unit, an ultramodern block dedicated to the hospitalization of high personalities, physiotherapy services, an ophthalmological operating block and another surgery room, officials say.
According to the government, since March 1, 700 patients have been registered there, while 80,000 are expected for the first year. This installation will obviously reduce the medical tourism of Togolese to neighboring countries such as Ghana.
